That's crafty: Making kids party signs

I'm in the thick of prepping and planning for my kids undersea/beach-themed party, which is now less than a week away.

I've never considered myself the crafty type--let me just put that on record.  That didn't stop me from trying this idea that was bouncing all over my brain.  I wanted to make some cute little signs for the food/dessert areas of the party.

I was excited to find all the crafting supplies I needed for around $10, with no single item being over $1.69.  I wanted to make signs for the beverage station, dessert station, and other areas.
I started by taking a regular piece of construction paper and folding it in half and then again into fourths.  Take a glue stick and glue all the edges down until the paper looks like a postcard.

You can now pick another color of  construction paper to add to the front of the "postcard."  Be sure to make this piece of paper a little smaller than the size of the original folded piece.  I then used a pair of Fiskars Edgers scissors (purchased at Walmart for $1.69) to make a pretty crinkled edge on that piece of paper.  Use a glue stick to glue this paper to the front of the first sheet.

You can layer several different colors pieces of paper in the same way.  Just make sure to make each new piece smaller than the last.  As a finishing touch, I found some puffy and other really cute stickers to decorate each card with.   As a finishing touch, I found some colorful clothespins for a dollar that I will use to stand each card.

We had fun thinking of names like punchbowl lagoon for the drinks area.  My printer is broken :( so I couldn't print name labels, but thankfully my handwriting isn't too bad, so I just wrote directly on each card.  Here are some of the other signs I made:

For the top-your-own Nachos area.

The sweet treats area is going to be our dessert table.  The cute cupcake on this card is a wooden one that I bought for only 57 cents--painted! I bought a snow cone machine and cannot wait to try it out.  We plan to have cupcakes, snow cones, and an ice cream bar with tons of toppings. Yummy!

This little welcome note will be in the center of our table to let all our guests know how glad we are to have them sharing in the fun with us.

I had so much fun making these and my daughter really enjoyed helping to decorate them.  I made a few more that will also decorate our table and I hope it will add a lot of color and detail.  I can't wait to take pics of the table and each station with it's sign! Come back for that. :)

  1. You did a good job! Especially with the pricing...$10! Each board looks like it cost around $10
That's a brillant idea, and I'm sure your daughter enjoyed that lol. I never would of thought of doing something like that. Can't wait for the rest of the pictures for more ideas.
